Car accident therapy — your auto insurance probably covers it

If you've been in a car accident in Washington State and something still doesn't feel right — anxiety while driving, sleep problems, intrusive memories, a general sense that you're not quite yourself — your auto insurance may already be paying for the help you need.

Most people don't know that. We do this billing every day.

What PIP is

PIP stands for Personal Injury Protection. It's a component of Washington auto insurance policies that covers medical and mental health expenses after an accident — regardless of who was at fault. Mental health care, including therapy for trauma, anxiety, and PTSD related to an accident, is explicitly covered under PIP.

You don't need a physical injury to qualify

Car accidents are one of the most common causes of PTSD. Anxiety while driving, intrusive memories, sleep disruption, hypervigilance — these are trauma responses, and they're covered. You don't need a hospital visit or a physical injury to use your PIP coverage for therapy.

It doesn't matter who caused the accident

PIP is no-fault coverage. It applies to your own policy regardless of fault. Even if you caused the accident, your own auto insurance covers your mental health care if you have PIP coverage.

How we handle it

We bill your auto insurer directly. You need to file a claim and get us a claim number and we take it from there. Most clients pay nothing out of pocket.

Working with an attorney

Not a problem. We coordinate with personal injury attorneys regularly. Mention it in your application.

What treatment looks like

We specialize in EMDR — one of the most effective treatments for accident-related trauma. Most car accident trauma involves a specific incident that EMDR is particularly well-suited to address. Many clients see significant progress in a focused course of treatment.

If something still doesn't feel right after your accident — it doesn't have to stay that way, and it might not cost you anything to find out.
