Finding a therapist is hard enough.
Finding a therapist with advanced training in trauma, OCD, perinatal mental health, child and adolescent therapy, dissociation, or other specialized areas can be even harder.
Northwest Mental Health Alliance is working to change that.
NWMHA is a nonprofit behavioral health organization and clinical training site serving Washington State. Along with providing mental health care, we train and mentor interns, associate therapists, and experienced clinicians so they can develop the specialized skills our communities need.
When you help train a therapist, your impact does not stop with one person.
That clinician may go on to help hundreds of clients throughout their career.
Why Clinician Training Matters
Graduate school teaches clinicians how to become therapists.
It does not necessarily provide the advanced specialty training required to effectively treat complex mental health concerns.
Training in evidence-based and specialized treatments often requires additional courses, consultation, supervision, certification programs, and continuing education.
Those costs can quickly reach thousands of dollars for a single clinician.
For interns and early-career therapists in particular, the cost can be a significant barrier.
NWMHA wants advanced training to be determined by a clinician’s commitment to learning — not by whether they personally have thousands of dollars available for continuing education.
What Your Donation Supports
Donations to the NWMHA Clinical Training & Access Fund help us provide education, consultation, supervision, and specialty training in areas such as:
Trauma treatment and EMDR
OCD and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP)
Perinatal mental health
Child and adolescent mental health
Complex trauma and dissociation
Anxiety disorders
LGBTQIA+ affirming mental health care
Neurodiversity-affirming care
Clinical consultation and supervision
Training scholarships for interns and developing clinicians

We Are a Clinical Training Site
Training the next generation of therapists is an important part of our mission.
NWMHA provides clinical opportunities for graduate-level counseling interns and developing therapists who work alongside experienced clinicians while receiving supervision, consultation, mentorship, and specialized education.
This creates a multiplier effect.
An investment in one developing clinician today can improve care for the clients they serve now — and for the many people they will work with throughout their career.
We aren't simply paying for classes.
We are building a stronger behavioral health workforce.
